Frequently asked questions
Where does my recording get uploaded?⌄
Nowhere — screen capture and encoding both happen locally in your browser via the MediaRecorder API. The video file never leaves your device unless you choose to download or share it yourself.
Why is the download a .webm file instead of .mp4?⌄
Chrome, Firefox and Edge record to WebM (VP8/VP9 + Opus) natively — it's the most reliable format for in-browser capture. Safari records directly to MP4. Either way, the file plays in any modern browser and video player; convert to MP4 anytime with our free Convert tools if you need that specific format.
Can I record my microphone and system audio together?⌄
Yes — turn on both "System/tab audio" and "Microphone" before you start, and we mix them into a single audio track using the Web Audio API. Note that some operating systems (notably macOS, for a full-screen share) don't let browsers capture system audio at all — if that toggle has no effect, that's a browser/OS limitation, not this tool.
