7Z Extractor
Extract 7Z archives in your browser — open high-compression 7-Zip files without installing 7-Zip.
🔒 Processed locally; encrypted 7Z will be reported clearly.
💾 Solid 7Z may use more memory.
Why .7z compresses harder — and what that costs
No 7-Zip install needed
Open 7Z on any device, including Mac and Linux where 7-Zip is not native.
High-ratio archives
Handles LZMA/LZMA2 solid archives that other online tools often fail on.
Private
Extraction runs locally via WebAssembly; nothing is uploaded.
How it works
- 1
Drop your .7z file.
- 2
Wait for the file list (solid archives may take a moment).
- 3
Browse and download files individually.
- 4
Or download all as ZIP.
LZMA/LZMA2 and solid archives
- 7z defaults to LZMA/LZMA2 with dictionary windows far larger than ZIP deflates — better ratios, more memory while extracting.
- Solid mode packs similar files as one stream: great ratio, but pulling one file may require decoding everything before it.
- Encrypted .7z uses AES-256; this tool handles plain archives only.
Frequently asked questions
What is 7Z?⌄
7Z is 7-Zip’s format, using LZMA for very high compression, common for backups and software.
Why not install 7-Zip?⌄
This tool works without installing anything, on any OS and in the browser.
Are encrypted 7Z files supported?⌄
No, encrypted 7Z will show a clear “not supported” message.
Why do some file names look wrong?⌄
Non-Latin names may display as placeholders due to the WASM engine, but contents are correct.
Is there a size limit?⌄
Same 10GB business line; practical browser limit about 1.5GB desktop / 512MB phone.
Can I create 7Z?⌄
No, this tool extracts only; use desktop 7-Zip to create.

✦ What Is a 7Z File?
7Z is the archive format of 7-Zip, the free open-source archiver for Windows. It is famous for the highest compression ratio among everyday formats, thanks to the LZMA and LZMA2 algorithms, large dictionaries and solid blocks that compress many files together — which is why a 7Z of source code or logs can be dramatically smaller than the same content as ZIP.
When 7Z is the right choice
Software authors publish releases as 7Z to save bandwidth, game mods and asset packs ship as 7Z, and backup keepers love it for squeezing text-heavy archives. If someone sent you a .7z and your operating system just stares at it, this page opens it with no installation.
How this tool reads it
Extraction runs on libarchive compiled to WebAssembly, right in your browser: drop the file, browse the real file tree with sizes, then download single files or the whole content repacked as a standard ZIP. Progress is shown throughout and long jobs can be cancelled cleanly.
Honest limits
Encrypted 7Z files are not supported and show a clear error instead of a password prompt. File names outside the Latin script may display as placeholders, but the file contents themselves are intact and download correctly. Single uploads are accepted up to 10 GB while your device memory sets the practical ceiling — about 512 MB on phones and 1.5 GB on desktops.
7Z vs ZIP vs RAR
7Z wins on size, ZIP wins on universality since every OS opens it natively, and RAR sits in between with splitting and encryption extras. Convert to ZIP here when you need to share with people who do not have 7-Zip.
Privacy
Nothing is uploaded: the archive is parsed and decompressed in this tab only. File names, contents and folder structure never touch a server, and the tool keeps working offline after the page has loaded.
