Frequently asked questions

Why measure in pixels instead of character count?

Character width varies hugely by font, size and language — a 60-character title in Latin letters fits on one line, while the same 60 characters in Chinese or Japanese can be twice as wide and get truncated mid-word. Measuring the actual rendered width in pixels is the only reliable way to know whether a search engine will cut your text off.

What truncation limits does Google actually use?

Google does not publish exact limits, but long-term observation shows titles truncate around 600 pixels on desktop and about 335 pixels on mobile (typically 55–65 characters), while descriptions are cut after roughly two lines (~155 characters on desktop). This tool uses those observed values — a real page's rendering is always the final judge.

Is this a real Google page?

No. The preview card mimics Google's result styling — blue title, URL line, gray description — so you can judge how your text will read in context. The truncation measurement uses the same font and size as the preview, so what you see is exactly what the measurement checks.

What is a SERP preview and why does truncation matter?

When someone searches on Google, Bing or DuckDuckGo, the only things they see about your page before clicking are the title, the URL line and the meta description — together called the search results snippet. If your title runs too long, search engines silently cut it off mid-sentence with an ellipsis; if the description is too long, readers never see your best argument. A SERP previewer shows your snippet exactly as a search engine would render it, and measures the text in real pixels so you know the precise moment it would be truncated — on desktop and on mobile, where limits are much tighter.

What the preview checks

  • 🎯 Pixel-accurate truncation detection, not character counting
  • 📱 Desktop and mobile viewport limits side by side
  • 📏 A live usage bar showing exactly how much of the limit you have left
  • 🔗 The URL line formatted the way search engines display it
  • ⚡ Instant results — every keystroke re-measures the snippet
  • 🔒 100% in your browser — nothing is uploaded

When to use it

  • 📝 Before publishing a blog post or product page, to tune the title and description
  • 🔄 When rewriting old meta tags to stop truncation in search results
  • 📊 Checking titles for mobile, where space is tightest
  • 🤝 Writing snippets for clients or colleagues so everyone sees the same result

Privacy: all measurement happens locally in your browser — your title, description and URL never leave this device.
