Error-correction levels, explained properly
Every QR code carries Reed–Solomon redundancy in one of four grades — the trade-off is damage tolerance versus capacity:
- L recovers ~7% — most data per code, least protection.
- M ~15% — the everyday default.
- Q ~25% — posters where stickers or folds may cover part of the code.
- H ~30% — required when you want a logo drawn in the middle without breaking scanning.
Higher correction also means denser modules for the same payload — pick L/M for long URLs, Q/H only when physical wear or artwork demands it.

Frequently asked questions
Are the QR codes really free? Do they expire?
Yes and no respectively. These are static QR codes: the content is encoded directly in the pattern, so they never expire, need no account, and keep working forever — unlike “dynamic” codes from paid services that die when your subscription ends.
SVG or PNG — which should I download?
SVG is a vector format that stays perfectly sharp at any print size — use it for posters, packaging and print shops. PNG is best for websites, documents and messaging apps. We generate both from the same code at up to 1024×1024.
Which error-correction level should I choose?
M (15%) is the best default. Choose H (30%) if the code may get dirty, partially covered or printed small; choose L only when you need to squeeze a very long text into a denser code.
