Frequently asked questions

How is AI upscaling different from normal resizing?

Normal resizing interpolates existing pixels, which makes enlargements blurry. Real-ESRGAN is a neural network trained to reconstruct plausible detail — edges stay crisp and textures look natural, especially on photos, anime art and logos.

Why is there an input size limit?

Neural upscaling is memory-hungry: a 4-megapixel input at 4× already produces a 64-megapixel image. The cap keeps jobs fast and reliable for everyone. Compress or crop very large photos first — they usually don't need AI upscaling anyway.

Which factor should I pick?

2× is the safe default for photos you want to print or zoom. 4× shines on small sources (icons, old thumbnails, 480p screenshots). If 4× looks over-smoothed, try 2× — it stays closer to the original.
